The GOLF TWIN 150 is a twin chamber lifejacket approved to SOLAS, IMO Res. MSC.81(70) amended by MSC.200(80) and MSC.207(81). It is slightly over 1 kg.

What is the lifetime of the CO2 cardridge? After how many years from date of manufactured I need to replace them?

Answer:
The CO2 cartridge is probably the part of the lifejacket which has the longest lifetime. It only needs to be replaced if corrosion appears or if it is empty of course. Corrosion can lead to a leakage of the cartridge, but primarily the corrosion leads to damage of the bladder.

The cartridge is usually not the problem in the life-span of a lifejacket. Other parts such as the bladder, the firing mechanism, valves and gaskets may have much shorter life-spans and can age faster due to temperature, humidity, salt water, changes and use of the lifejacket have an effect on ageing.

Please note: There is a difference between a self-check and a professional service.

To check the bladder, the pill, the cartridge and the seams definitely makes sense. You should always do that before a sailing trip.

A professional service should be carried out at least once every other year. For instance, you cannot service the inflation device yourself because you need the appropriate tooling and spare parts. For this you would require the equipment and training which an authorised service station has.

Hello.
I Have a Secumar BS10 from 1991 (Never used). Where can i get a replacementkit for the patrone (20grm)

Answer:
I cannot tell you where to buy re-arming kits for the BS10 - and keep a good conscience. The reason for that is simply that the service lifetime for the BS10 ended 11 years ago. We will not and cannot take responsibility for your safety if you use an out of date lifejacket such as this BS10.

Of course we have seen such old BS10s working properly. However, like all lifejackets, there are components that will degrade over time. Some of these, such as gaskets, O-rings, gas cylinders etc can be replaced via professional service, but UV light, heat, cold and other factors eventually degrade the very fabric of the lifejacket and it needs to be condemned and replaced.

This is a life-saving appliance after all. It may look OK, but it has only one job to do - once! And asking an ancient lifejacket to do that for you is not giving you the best start! Please don't put your life or the life of others at risk and say goodbye to this beautiful device.

Dear mrs/mr,

In order to comply with the workvest (no SOLAS lifejackets) inspection regime under the ISO EN 12402 the inflatable workvests should be inspected yearly by a firstline inspection and serviced within a timespan of 24 months by a secumar authorised service station.
My question is what implicates this firstline inspection by a competent person? Could you please send me a checklist, if any exists? And what is exactly meant by a competent person?

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Randolf Slootweg

Answer:
An inflatable SECUMAR lifejacket must be serviced after 24 months at the latest. Lifejackets subject to heavy wear such as commercial and industrial use lifejackets or workvests must be serviced more frequently; even 6-monthly intervals can be applicable in such cases. The service interval must be defined by the customer or the user of the life jacket, on the basis of a risk assessment, for example.

Safety rules, the user's own regulations of the safety representatives, and also the regulations of the trade associations, IMO, SOLAS must be taken into account in all cases. Some national bodies or insurances for Occupational Health and Safety for instance may require intermediate inspections done by specifically trained personnel. There is no such checklist by SECUMAR.

Note: These inspections do not substitute a lifejacket SERVICE. Servicing should be undertaken by the manufacturer or an authorized service station and can be recognized by the affixing of a new service interval sticker on the disc showing the next due service date.

If you have any further questions, please contact SECUMAR benelux: +31-33-28 65 088.

Is it possible to mount the manual overide inflator 401S
on all of your inflatable jackets who has the 4001S automatic?
Like you can on Alpha 275 3D TWZ TWIN

Answer:
Yes it is technically possible, but this would mean that once modified, the inflatable lifejacket loses its current approval.
For further information concerning the Alpha 275 3D TWZ TWIN, please write directly to info@secumar.com.
